Legends about Christmas Tree

Alsace in Germany is where the Christmas tree originated. According to legend, there is a monastic saints named Fuyuelunting living in a forest in Alsac. He likes children very much. One Christmas, he hopes the children near him can play together happily, but he’s very poor with no money to buy favorite toys or candy to the kids, so he is very upset.

One morning, Fuyuelunting was walking in the woods, I suddenly saw a small cedar tree filled with snow, and the branches was hung with icicles sparkling in the sun, very beautiful. He brings the tree back and planted in a pot. Then he picked up some berries in the woods, made some cross with flour, or star-shaped cookies, hang on the tree. Also used some small candles plug in the branches, dressed the tree colorful and beautiful. On the Christmas night, Fuyuelunting played some music, the children heard and came to his hut, everyone around the tree, dancing and singing Christmas songs, and then Fuyuelunting gave cakes to the children to eat, so they had a happy Christmas . After that, the custom spread up.

1837, the German Princess Helen married a France duke. After that, Christmas tree also spread to Paris with her. 1841, Victoria’s husband put a Christmas tree in front of the palace. Then this custom spread from the Royal aristocracy to popular folk. In 1830, a large number of Germans immigrated to the United States, many of these people are Catholics and Christians, mostly scattered in New York, New England. Their Christmas tree caught the attention of locals and imitation Christmas trees became popular in the United States, then the church, the family. Around the world, especially in Europe, America and Australia over the country, Christmas tree became the most lively, lovely decoration. It is a symbol of happiness and hope.

Decorations on Christmas tree around the world seem similar. Since Christmas is in winter, the trees are evergreens. Mostly four to five feet high small palm tree, or a small pine tree planted in a large pot and covered with small colorful candles or small lights, then hang a variety of decorations and ribbons, as well as children’s toy, gift sent by family members. After a good decoration, the tree is put at the corner of the living room. If it is placed in churches, halls, or in public places, the Christmas tree is relatively taller, but can also be put gifts under the tree.

According to Christmas customs records, the first Christmas tree was a small palm trees at the roadside in Bethlehem. In the night before Jesus was born, Virgin Mary and St. Joseph was very tired when they went to Bethlehem. They had a short rest under the tree. The small palm tree seemed favored, and expanded its branches to resist the cold wind blowing for the Virgin. In the middle of that night, Jesus Christ was born. At this time, in the sky appeared a particularly bright star, shining wonderfully light to the small palm tree directly, circling into a beautiful iris. Since then, the small palm trees play a glory role on the Christmas.
